Despite rain and a slippery new surface, James Ellison enjoyed a trouble free first outing on Jentin Racing's new Yamaha R1 at last Sunday's Donington Park BSB preview day.

"My last time on a bike was at the final European Superstock round at Magny Cours in October of last year," explained Ellison. "Conditions weren't the best with the new track surface, wind and rain but we achieved what we set out to do by running-in the R1. The next job is to get down to some serious tyre testing before the Superbike season opener."

Team manager Bernard Toleman added that it was a major achievement just making it to Donington.

"We have been waiting on various components for the bikes since they arrived in February. As these things go some parts arrived on schedule and some didn't, hence we were still putting the bike together at 1am (Sunday) morning," he revealed. "The important thing is that we were able to put James out for some all important installation laps and we can now go to the final pre-season shakedown at Silverstone for some serious testing."

The Silverstone test takes place on Wednesday (March 17) with the opening BSB round at the Northampton circuit on March 28.
