HM Plant Honda Michael Rutter, who is on pole for the first race of the season, laid down the law as he went quickest in this morning's dry but overcast practice session at Silverstone for the first round of the British Superbike Championship.

John Reynolds on the Rizla Suzuki, who is third on the grid for today's first race, posted the second fastest time ahead of wild man Ryuichi Kiyonari who will be taking fourth on the grid. Second on the grid, Sean Emmett on the highest placed Ducati, claimed the fourth fastest time of the session.

Yukio Kagayama, seventh on the grid for today's first race, set the fifth fastest time on the second Rizla Suzuki. Even though doctors have advised Yuki not to be riding a bike yet, let alone race, he does not seem to be allowing his injuries interfere with carving up the BSB field. Sixth fastest was ETI Ducati's Stuart Mason, followed by Scott Smart on the new Hawk Kawasaki ZX-10R. Gary Mason, Dean Thomas and Sam Corke, who is competing in the Superbike Cup, make up the top 10 with eighth, ninth and tenth fastest times respectively.
