Shane Byrne says he’ll have an eye on his MCE British Superbike championship rivals at Oulton Park as he targets a double victory to strengthen his slender lead heading into the three-round finale.

The five-time and defending BSB champion has endured a frustrating few of rounds at Thruxton, Cadwell Park and Silverstone but after senior Ducati bosses visited the Be Wiser Ducati team at the Northamptonshire circuit, including Superbike director Ernesto Marinelli, Byrne is confident of getting his title charge firing at Oulton Park.

During BSB’s earlier visit to the Cheshire circuit Byrne grabbed a win and a second place, which acted as ignition for his charge to the top of the BSB standings after a difficult opening two rounds, and he is hoping to go one step better with a double victory this weekened.

“Clearly Silverstone last weekend never went to plan for my side of the garage, there was the possibility of 15 more Podium Points and we ended up with just one,” Byrne said. “That said there were plenty of positives for me too which I certainly plan on taking into the Showdown starting this coming weekend.

“We had a win and a second at Oulton Park earlier this year so the aim is obvious, to go one better and do the double whilst keeping a watchful eye on our closest rivals.”

Byrne heads into the Showdown as leader but holds a slender six-point advantage over nearest challenger Leon Haslam, while 2015 BSB champion Josh Brookes is just 10 points off of the Be Wiser Ducati rider.
