Christian Iddon has topped the wet opening free practice session at Oulton Park with most teams avoiding risks as the MCE British Showdown starts.

Iddon, who painfully missed out on a top six Showdown place last weekend at Silverstone for Tyco BMW, topped FP1 in the wet thanks to a late flyer which put him almost three seconds clear of second place rider Josh Brookes on the Anvil Hire Yamaha.

With conditions unlikely to remain wet for the remainder of the weekend the majority of the riders resisted hunting outright lap times which provided a shaken up order. Bradley Ray on the Buildbase Suzuki ended FP1 third ahead of Sylvain Guintoli on the Bennetts Suzuki as Jakub Smrz rounded out the top five for PR Racing Lloyd and Jones BMW.

Showdown trio Jake Dixon, Jason O’Halloran and Shane Byrne duly followed on the times ahead of Tommy Bridewell and Lee Jackson, with the remaining Showdown contenders Leon Haslam in 16th and Peter Hickman 17th.
