John Hopkins has recorded two rostrums in two rounds for Moto Rapido Ducati having battled through visor issues in the wet weather conditions of race one at Oulton Park.

Last time out at Silverstone the former MotoGP star grabbed a maiden BSB podium of 2017 in mixed conditions and repeated the feat in the Oulton Park opener by taking second place after leader Dan Linfoot’s Honda engine blew which forced an early red flag.

Hopkins says despite battling Christian Iddon and Leon Haslam for second place with a visor issue he felt comfortable on the Moto Rapido Ducati to reach the rostrum as a BSB ‘Showdown spoiler’.

“We thought the first race was actually going to be dry so we ended up scrapping warm-up in the wet as it is so close to the race so we didn’t want to do anything silly,” Hopkins said. “It was a case of riding to the conditions but I was having some serious visibility issues and kept having to rub my visor. I think the track was a little bit dirty.

“I was in a battle around the guys I was with but unfortunately for Iddon he went down so then it was a battle with Leon. I just wanted to ride my own race and get my head down.

“I want to thank the Moto Rapido Ducati guys so much. It’s nice to finally get on the podium and give the guys the results they deserve.”
