Christian Iddon says the bittersweet achievement of winning the BSB Riders’ Cup will be useful momentum for the winter ahead of a stronger challenge in 2018 with Tyco BMW.

Iddon says the feat of taking the Riders’ Cup, awarded to the best-placed rider in the championship outside of the BSB Showdown top six, is reward for Tyco BMW’s efforts this year despite suffering the bitter disappointment of missing out on a title fight.

After a strong conclusion to the year at Brands Hatch thanks to a double second place finish followed by fifth place in the final race to secure the BSB Riders’ Cup, Iddon is keen to use the positive performances to build on his preparations over the winter ahead of the 2018 season having already re-signed for Tyco BMW.

“For me, winning the Riders’ Cup isn’t a great achievement as it means I wasn’t in the Showdown but it is really great and payback to the Tyco BMW squad for all their work this year,” Iddon said. “We will work hard for next year to make sure we are in the proper championship fight.

“It is one of those seasons where everyone has got ifs, buts and maybes but we’ve got some of them. It was a shame to see how the middle of the season panned out but it was nice to end the season on a high.

“It is definitely a direction we can move forwards with for next season so I am positive. The trophy isn’t for me it is for the team so a big thank you to them for putting a great bike underneath me, particularly this weekend, but also for the never-say-die attitude to keep working.

“All we’ve learnt this year is good information for next year. We have a lot to go home with ahead of 2018.”
