Jake Dixon has edged clear of his Bennetts British Superbike Showdown rivals in the opening free practice session at Oulton Park before rain curtailed any late time attacks.

The RAF Regular & Reserves Kawasaki rider, who heads into the Showdown aiming to cut into Leon Haslam’s dominant points lead, impressed with a 1m 34.737s to blast clear of the BSB championship leader in second place by almost four-tenths of a second before light rain denied any of his rivals to improve late on.

The rain saw Danny Buchan, who narrowly missed out on a BSB Showdown spot last week at Silverstone, take third place in the session for FS-3 Racing Kawasaki ahead of fellow Showdown spoiler Richard Cooper on the Buildbase Suzuki with the duo edging out title fighters Josh Brookes (McAMS Yamaha) and Peter Hickman (Smiths Racing BMW) into fifth and sixth respectively.

JG Speedfit Kawasaki’s Luke Mossey claimed seventh place in FP1 despite leading during the middle of the session with Honda’s Jason O’Halloran in eighth as James Ellison (Anvil Hire Yamaha) and Bradley Ray (Buildbase Suzuki) rounded out the top ten.

Final BSB Showdown contender Glenn Irwin had to settle for 14th place in FP1 having not opted for a late flying lap on the Be Wiser Ducati, while his team-mate Andrew Irwin suffered a high-speed off but was okay to continue following minor repairs to his Panigale R.
