Shane Byrne has taken a huge stride towards a fifth MCE British Superbike championship with a dominant double victory at Donington Park with his title charge boosted by Leon Haslam crashing out.

The Be Wiser Ducati rider had been involved in a fierce and dramatic battle for the lead with Haslam and his JG Speedfit Kawasaki team-mate James Ellison with the three avoiding a massive clash at the Melbourne hairpin on lap eight.

With Ellison fading from the battle at the front Haslam and Byrne continued to trade moves with the four-time BSB champion nipping ahead up the inside at the Melbourne hairpin on lap 12. With Haslam looking to charge right back less than half a lap later his race was over when he low-sided out at Redgate.

The BSB championship leader maintained a useful time cushion over new nearest challenger Dan Linfoot and apart from a hairy moment around Goddards on lap 17 Byrne eased home to complete his double victory weekend with his ninth win of the season.

After Linfoot moved up to second he endured a relatively lonely race to help his Showdown charge while Christian Iddon returned to form for Tyco BMW with third place.

Peter Hickman, who was involved in a first lap incident with Jason O'Halloran falling at the Old Hairpin, grabbed fourth place ahead of Buildbase BMW's Richard Cooper and Bennetts Suzuki's Tommy Bridewell.

Despite fading over the second half of the race Ellison held off Luke Mossey for seventh place as Billy McConnell and Glenn Irwin completed the top ten.

Lee Jackson once again scored solid points in 11th ahead of Jakub Smrz with Michael Laverty a somewhat lowly 13th to lose his lead in the BSB Riders' cup competition to Hickman.

Stuart Easton scored his first points for Lloyds British Moto Rapido Ducati with Vittorio Iannuzzo taking the final point position.
