Jason Plato has been excluded from the opening race of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship weekend at Thruxton.

The SEAT Sport UK driver had battled hard to secure a third place finish in the race after a race-long battle with the Team RAC BMW of Colin Turkington and 2007 title rival Fabrizio Giovanardi.

However, after the race, his Leon TDi was found to have failed the ride height test and the 2001 champion was excluded from the race as a result.

It means that Giovanardi moves into third place and therefore strengthens his championship lead over the SEAT man, while race winner Tom Onslow-Cole is now just a matter of points behind Plato in the battle for second place.

As well as losing his points, Plato will now be forced to start race two from the back of the grid, albeit still with the success ballast he would have picked up for the second place finish.
