Colin Turkington posted the quickest time at Rockingham as the 2009 field assembled for the annual media day and season launch.

The Team RAC driver, looking to secure the Independents' title for the third straight season, posted a quickest time of 1min 23.609secs from a busy day which saw him complete over 60 laps on a cold but dry afternoon at the Northamptonshire circuit.

Turkington ended the day three-tenths of a second quicker than defending champion Fabrizio Giovanardi, while Turkington's Team RAC team-mate Stephen Jelley was third quickest and a tenth behind the Vauxhall man.

Matt Neal and Andrew Jordan slotted into fourth and fifth, while the top six was rounded out by the Team Dynamics Honda of Gordon Shedden, complete with striking new black livery.

Harry Vaulkhard was seventh for Tempus Sport followed by Rob Collard, Dave Pinkney and the Team Honda Integra, which turned laps in the hands of both Martyn Bell and Paul O'Neill before the team was sidelined by an engine problem.

Johnny Adam was limited to just six laps before a diff issue sidelined his Airwaves BMW while a gearbox problem meant fellow rookie Liam McMillan was late joining the session and only completed limited laps.

John George was 13th in his Honda Integra while engine problems left Tom Chilton's Ford Focus in 14th place. Martin Johnson's Vauxhall Astra Coupe completed the 15 cars to set a time, with the Cartridge World Carbon Zero Racing car of Dan Eaves also turned laps but didn't log a time. A suspension issue meant Adam Jones' car remained in the garage.
