Defending champions West Surrey Racing are set to return to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship this season, despite losing title sponsorship from RAC.

RAC confirmed last week that it would continue to back the BMW team this year but in a reduced capacity, leading to a new-look car appearing on the main stage at this weekend's Autosport International show in Birmingham.

The car featured new backing from eBay Motors and lighting company Alvara, although no title sponsor is yet in place for the year ahead.

Indeed, the team has yet to officially confirm its plans for the year ahead although team boss Dick Bennetts insisted that defending the title won by Colin Turkington was the main aim for 2010.

"We are obviously intending to defend our titles in the BTCC again this year," he said. "However, we're also keeping our options open with regard to the World Touring Car Championship and the new format European Touring Car Cup. We've got three BMW 320SIs and we proved in 2009 that we have the resources to run all three cars to the same competitive level.

"As it stands, a golden opportunity exists for a company to take up title sponsorship of the most successful non-works BMW team in Europe."

Bennetts also confirmed that he was keen to retain both Turkington and Stephen Jelley for the season ahead with discussions ongoing with drivers regarding a third car.

"We'd very much like to retain Colin and Stephen," he said. "However we are talking to a number of other drivers for the third seat. We're not just looking at drivers from 'tin tops' either, as Stephen has proved that you don't have to have this background to be a competitive touring car driver."
