Rob Austin Racing has announced plans to move into the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship for the 2011 season.

The team, best known for its exploits in Ginetta and historic racing, will field two Audi A4s built to the series' new Next Generation Touring Car regulations.

The cars will be built by the same GPR Motorsport team that developed the NGTC Toyota Avensis seen at the Brands Hatch season finale and are also building Toyota's for use by Dynojet and Speedworks next season.

The Audis are due to be delivered in early March ahead of pre-season testing, with the team hopeful of naming its drivers next month.

"This is a great step for us and a fantastic challenge," team boss and former F3 racer Rob Austin said. "We are convinced that the NGTC concept is going to make the BTCC even more competitive and exciting and that the Audi will be a race winner."

The last time an Audi appeared on the BTCC grid was back in 1998 before the withdrawal of the factory team.

The attached image gives an impression of how the car will appear, although its final appearance is subject to change.
