Dave Newsham and Lea Wood have tested with the Speedworks team as they evaluate their options for the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season.

The pair the track in cold conditions at Donington Park for the test, where they shared driving duties in the NGTC-spec Toyota Avensis raced by Tony Hughes and Paul O'Neill this season.

The test marked the first time that both drivers had sampled a Next Generation Touring Car having competed in S2000 Vauxhall Vectras for Team ES Racing and BINZ Racing respectively in 2012.

"Both drivers have been great to work with - very professional," team boss Christian Dick told BTCC.net. "Their times were also impossibly close and I'm not just saying that because it sounds nice in the media! Genuinely, they were very evenly matched. They are also right in saying the weather hasn't helped. Even I've felt cold and I'm from up North!"

The open test day at Donington also saw Tech-Speed return to the track with the Chevrolet Cruze is ran in 2011, albeit now with an NGTC-spec turbo engine under the bonnet.

Joe Girling, who is set to race the car in his debut season in 2013, was behind the wheel of the car for the first time having carried out a brief shakedown at Bruntingthorpe a day earlier.

"An S2000 car with an NGTC engine is not going to be a match for a full-on NGTC machine in 2013 but the Cruze will be ideal for me to contest the Jack Sears Trophy and enable us to gauge how we're performing compared to the other S2000 runners," he said. "It's my first time in a BTCC car and it's a steep learning curve - the biggest thing is how it just sticks to the road when cornering.

"Hopefully I can test the car once more before Christmas but where we don't know yet... let's keep an eye on the weather forecasts."
