Motorbase looks set to expand to a four-car team for the 2013 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season after it emerged that a third NGTC Ford Focus is nearly completion.

The team had previously confirmed plans to run a two-car team under the Airwaves Racing banner with Mat Jackson and Aron Smith, with the duo both at the wheel of the Next Generation version of the Focus. which first appeared on track in the second half of 2012.

Motorbase also confirmed that it would continue to field one of its older S2000-based Fords for Liam Griffin and has now revealed that Griffin is set to be joined by a third NGTC car for the season ahead; with the two cars running under a separate banner to the Airwaves duo.

Discussions with potential drivers are ongoing, while the team name that Griffin and the third NGTC car will run under is also expected to be confirmed shortly.

"There is another NGTC car to come as well, so there will be a third NGTC car," team boss David Bartrum told Inside BTCC. "We aren't sure who is going to drive it yet as we thought we knew what was going to happen, but it hasn't.

"The car is built and just needs to be finished off. I'm not in a rush to finish it as we are focused on the job at hand now and won't be back at the workshop for a while, but whatever name we pick for Liam will also be reflected on that car as well. Maybe we'll go for the Motorbase All-Stars!

"[In short] Airwaves Racing will be the two cars we have now for Mat and Aron and whatever Liam's team is called, it will be joined by an NGTC car at some point and there will be another driver in it. But there will be four cars."
