WIX Racing's Adam Morgan exclaims his delight in recovering to qualify sixth for today's opening British Touring Car Championship race having began his weekend in tyre wall at Thruxton.

Morgan's Mercedes A-Class speared off into the tyre barrier at turn one during the first free-practice session of the weekend. A tyre failure was to blame for his off but the WIX Racing driver insists that's not something he's dwelling on ahead of today's three races.

Qualifying for the Mercedes stable proved to be a fruitful endeavour as Morgan's A-Class team mate Aiden Moffat secured his best ever Saturday result with P2 on the grid.

"To come back from FP1, having had that tyre failure, and get it into the top-ten is something that we're really happy with," Morgan told Crash.net. "We're in a good place for the first race so hopefully we'll get a good point's haul - maybe even look to get higher up.

"All credit to Aiden [Moffat]. He produced a mega lap in qualifying yesterday. I went through the data and could see he really threw one down.

"You can't dwell on what happened [in FP1]. You've got to forget about it. It was a tyre failure so it was out of our control. As soon as I got out of the car I had a look round and could see what happened."

Thruxton has proved to be something of a happy hunting ground for Morgan and his WIX Racing squad after the three-time BTCC winner took his first 'lights-to-flag' victory at the high speed venue last year.

Morgan has already outlined what he believes to best the strategy for today, by finding a balance between performance and conservation.

"It's the same for everyone. Today isn't going to be a performance type of race, it's more about who can get the best out of the tyres and make them last the distance. It's not an out-and-out race. You've got to make them last distance and make sure you put yourself in a good position for race two," Morgan continued.

"I've got very fond memories around here. It we can replicate that this year, it would be amazing. Aiden's up there as well. It's always nice to see your team mate up there as well. I hope we can look after the tyres fairly well. There's no reason why we shouldn't."
