Silverline Subaru Team BMR's Colin Turkington is remaining coy over his 2016 British Touring Car Championship title chances despite leaping to fifth as the series heads to Knockhill this weekend.

Since the resurrection of Subaru's debut BTCC campaign at Oulton Park, the former double champion has romped to three victories while also securing two pole positions in the process.

It's a charge in which has seen Turkington move to within 34-points of championship leader Rob Collard despite the Subaru Levorg outfit effectively missing the first three rounds of the season.

Turkington's latest win came during race one at the Snetterton round, which the Team BMR driver also backed up with another podium and a sixth place finish during the two remaining races.

"It's a really good step forward for us in terms of the championship position. A really good strong haul of points. We're moving in the right direction but we still need more to be able to actually challenge," said Turkington.

"We're really lacking on straight-line speed compared to the others we're racing against. If we can make another step we'll have a chance. But that was really difficult to get those results.

"We've got the chassis working really well and we're making gains each time out. I lucked into a bit of a slipstream in qualifying, which helped. Once you're up there you've sort of got track position for the rest of the day.

"We know what we need to work on. It's difficult to say what we can do from here. We're just taking it one race at a time. I'm leaving here very pleased."

Although the momentum clearly seems to be swinging towards Turkington's favour, the Ulsterman isn't getting carried away over his 2016 prospects.

While BMR seemingly appear to be on top of the Levorg's chassis, Turkington highlighted the RWD car's straight-line speed deficit and lack of previous mileage as his reason for caution.

"I don't really know what's achievable. Each weekend is a completely new set of circumstances. I've been able to qualify really well these last three events with no ballast but it could probably get trickier," Turkington explained.

"We're still taking chances on the set up for the races. You don't really want to be doing that. You just want to be nudging the car rather than making wholesale changes. But we're having to test away as we race.

"We're developing as we go and that's evident to see as the chassis is getting stronger."
