Handy Motorsport's Rob Austin has emerged from the opening British Touring Car Championship practice session quickest of all at Donington Park.

The Toyota Avensis driver ended the 40-minute running just 0.031s ahead of Eurotech Racing's Jack Goff in second as little over 0.2s covered the remainder of the top-five order.

Austin's fastest time in FP1 [1 minute 10.113s] means Toyota have topped every practice session of 2017 thus far.

Behind the top-two, Team HARD's Jake Hill continues the Volkswagen outfit's fine start to the season with the third quickest time while Tom Ingram was fourth in the second Toyota Avensis.

Team BMW's Colin Turkington was the last of the top-five runners in fifth position, lapping the former Grand Prix venue just 0.222s off Austin's ultimate time.

Michael Epps was sixth fastest in the second Volkswagen CC machine, while Laser Tools Racing's Aiden Moffat was seventh ahead of BTC Norlin's Chris Smiley in eighth.

The sister Mercedes of Adam Morgan ended the opening session in ninth while Ashley Sutton gave Subaru reason for some optimism after setting the tenth quickest time.

Elsewhere, reigning champion and current points leader Gordon Shedden was the top factory Honda Civic Type-R runner in twelfth, marginally ahead of Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall's Tom Chilton in thirteenth.
