Mat Jackson feels his Ford Focus is now 'back in the window' after recording Motorbase Performance's first British Touring Car Championship win of 2017 at Croft.

Jackson held on for his first BTCC win of the campaign by the skin of his teeth after Subaru's Ashley Sutton almost pulled off an audacious last gasp attempt at the final corner.

The Ford Focus driver seized the lead away from Ollie Jackson early in the race but saw his handsome lead eradicated following Sutton's relentless late race charge.

"It's been a bit late! We've been working hard on the car. We were hit hard on the regulations for the boost and that put us back for three races," Jackson told Crash.net.

"We've had to find some time in ourselves and we've done that. We came here with a car that was quick from the word go so I'm very pleased. I think we're back in the window. We've been in the window all weekend.

"We got a good gap but I could see the two Subarus behind and this is RWD territory around here. As soon as they were set free, they were coming. We just hung on. One more lap and it was Sutton's."

Jackson applauded Sutton's conduct during their thrilling final corner exchange and said 'he would have done exactly the same'.

"He knew what he was doing. He around the outside. Fair-play, a lot of drivers would have just buried it straight in the back and pushed you wide. He didn't do that, fair-play," he continued.

"If you go around the outside of someone, you know you're getting to get rolled off. He knew it and I knew it.

"You've got to try the move. I understand exactly where he's coming from. I'd have done exactly the same. He raced it clean."

Finally, on a weekend where yesterday's multi-car qualifying incident rocked the paddock, Jackson dedicated the win to his team mate Luke Davenport, who is currently recovering in intensive care.

"To take that win is great, especially on a weekend where things aren't really how you would want them to pan out. This is for Luke [Davenport] really. Just hope he can make a full recovery and get back in the car."
