Phil Bennett made the most of pole position in his Vauxhall Astra to win the opening Sprint Race at Silverstone today. He was chased over the line by the other three Astra Coupes, the Touring Cars having no problems tearing through the Production Class runners in the 15-lap race.

MG showed their race pace, the cars running with the Peugeot 406s for much of the race, Warren Hughes retiring and Anthony Reid claiming 12th overall - sixth Touring Car home.

The Production Class was all about the Peugeot 306s, Roger Moen winning, with Simon Harrison second after a superb drive through the field. Tom Boardman claimed his first podium in third.
