Team Petronas Syntium Proton will be aiming for an uplift in results to bring the 2004 BTCC championship to a close at Donington next weekend as the manufacturer leaves the series.

With strong performances on occasion during the season including setting fastest race laps and rookie Fariqe Hairuman amassing considerable race mileage and experience, the Petronas-backed team is going all-out for a podium finish that's so far eluded them this year.

"Donington is a great circuit to end my first season in the BTCC," says Hairuman. "I've run at the track before which with my growing confidence and race craft will for sure help me find more car speed. Last time out I turned in some of the best sector times of my season. At Donington I want to string together strong races from beginning to end."

Shaun Watson Smith meanwhile is aiming to put a good end to Proton's campaign in the British Touring Car Championship. "I think Donington will suit our cars better than Snetterton," says the South African. "It's an awesome track and I'm really looking forward to driving there - I'm really focused on getting the maximum out of the car. It's our last chance this year to get a result so I'll put everything into it!"

Tech boss Mike Carroll is well aware what the season end of the BTCC can bring. "Donington should suit us better than Snetterton and there may be opportunities for Team PSP to capitalize so long as we don't become victims of any demolition derby in the final 2004 championship meeting," he says.

Who's he kidding? See the demolition at Donington for an exceptionally cheap price.
