Nicolas Lapierre celebrated his third win this year after leading for 14 laps of the 18-lap long 20th race of the Formula 3 Euro Series season.

The Opel team driver edged out champion Jamie Green into second. Rookie Roberto Streit captured his first podium finish in the Formula 3 Euro Series by placing third on the 4.574-kilometre-long Hockenheimring.

Adrian Sutil, starting the race from pole position, suffered the worst luck in the action-packed race. The 22-year-old held the lead from the start and defended this until his engine suddenly cut out on the fourth lap and he rolled off-course.

Nicolas Lapierre then took the lead and held onto it over the finish line. Behind the podium finishers came Alexandre Pr?mat in fourth, a position which rewarded him with the runner-up title behind his team mate Jamie Green. In the battle for the vice-champion's title Alexandre Pr?mat, second in the overall standings, and Nicolas Lapierre, double winner in Hockenheim, were separated by a mere three points after the 20 races this season. Both clinched three wins.

Nico Rosberg got stuck at the start and thereby relinquished his chance of seizing third place overall in the Formula 3 Euro Series standings. He picked up one point after coming eighth, which left him in fourth place overall.

"That was a perfect weekend for me," said Lapierre after the race. "It already went well on Friday and I'm pleased to be standing at the very top of the podium in the last race of the season. In all, I'm pretty satisfied with my season in the Formula 3 Euro Series. After a good beginning I had a few problems halfway through the season, but the end can hardly be any better."

Champion Jamie Green "Overall I didn't have an easy weekend and that's why I'm very satisfied with my second place. I want to thank my team ASM Formule 3, Mercedes-Benz and the organisers of the Formula 3 Euro Series for a brilliant season."

Prema Powerteam's Roberto Streit was glad to be on the podium. "It's fantastic standing on the podium for the first time," he said. "After Jamie overtook me I then concentrated on holding onto third place. Jamie was simply too fast for me today, but Alex Pr?mat was no threat to me."
