Shanghai cancellation forces 2011 DTM calendar re-jig

A clash with the FIA World Touring Car Championship has forced a revision of the 2011 DTM calendar, with the Chinese round originally scheduled for November having now been dropped.

The 2011 DTM championship round scheduled for Shanghai has been cancelled.

The planned date of 6 November clashed with the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) meeting at the Guangdong International Circuit, and no alternative date could be arranged. However, it is hoped that the series will return to Asia in 2012.

"The cancellation of the Shanghai race is regrettable, but due to the given situation, it can't be changed for 2011," confirmed ITR chairman Hans Werner Aufrecht. "However, I am certain that this is not the end of our plans in Asia for the near future, and together we are putting our effort into having a race in China again from 2012."

As a consequence, the series will now have a German finale at Hockenheim this year, on 23 October.

The amended 2011 DTM calendar is as follows:

1 May Hockenheimring, Baden-W?rttemberg (D)
15 May Circuit Park Zandvoort (NL)
5 June Red-Bull-Ring Spielberg (A)
19 June Lausitzring (D)
3 July Norisring (D)
17 July Showevent Olympiastadion Munich (D)*
7 August N?rburgring (D)
4 September Brands Hatch (GB)
18 September Oschersleben (D)
2 October Valencia (E)
23 October Hockenheimring Baden-W?rttemberg (D)
* denotes non-championship round
