Lucas Auer has been announced as the second driver to join Mercedes in DTM for the 2015 season after impressing in a test session last December.

The 20-year-old spent the past two years in Euro F3 with Mercedes-Benz-powered cars and was invited for a DTM test session in Jerez last December. The Austrian proved to Head of Motorsport Toto Wolff he was ready to move in DTM and has landed a race seat in a Mercedes-AMG C63.

"Joining the DTM is an important step in my career," Auer said. "I'm really proud to be part of the Mercedes family. Testing towards the end of last year in Jerez was a fantastic experience. I can't wait to get back in the car and continue preparations for my DTM debut."

The Austrian driver notched up four victories and 22 podium appearances in two years of Euro F3, finishing fourth in both seasons. The young driver also said he is anticipating a steep learning curve as he graduates into DTM.

"I realise that it won't be an easy task," Auer added. "The DTM is a top-class racing series with formidable opponents, but I'm willing to learn and ready to embark on this adventure. I intend to grab this chance at Mercedes-Benz with both hands."

Toto Wolff is delighted to continue bringing through young talented drivers and is excited for the upcoming season. Auer joins Maximilian Gotz as the second driver announced for Mercedes in DTM.

"Lucas Auer has earned this opportunity with his performance in recent years," Wolff said. "We are continuing with our philosophy of giving young racing talent a chance to move up to the DTM and it is now apparent that both the Customer Sports Programme and Formula 3 can lead to that objective, as evidenced by Maximilian G?tz and Lucas Auer."
