DTM rookie Lucas Auer has topped the timesheets for Mercedes aboard their C-Coupe on a second rain affected day at the Estoril pre-season test.

ART Grand Prix's Auer managed to better Jamie Green's day one benchmark by the slimmest of margins with a 1 minute 32.748 second lap despite rain hindering the morning running at the former Grand Prix circuit.

Despite Auer setting the pace for Mercedes, it was the Audi's who continued to win the testing battle after four RS 5 machines ended the day within the top-five order.

The four-car Audi train - led by Team Rosberg's Nico Muller in second - could barely be separated by one-tenth of a second as the rest of the top-five consisted of Mike Rockenfeller, Miguel Molina and Adrien Tambay.

Like yesterday, BMW could manage no higher than sixth position. This time it was Martin Tomczyk who carried the M4 honours after completing a mammoth 95-lap program for Team Schnitzer.

Two-time DTM champion Timo Scheider turned in his first laps of the year in the afternoon session after he took over the Phoenix testing duties from Rockenfeller.

Scheider ended the running seventh while the two Mercedes C-Coupe's of Maximillian Gotz and Christian Vietoris trailed their compatriot in eighth and ninth.

The day's busiest man - setting 97 laps - was BMW's Augusto Farfus in tenth position. Amazingly, despite only setting a time good enough for only the fringes of the top ten, the Brazilian's best effort was still just half-a-second off Auer's peak speed.

Making his first official appearance of the 2015 season in eleventh position was defending DTM champion Marco Wittmann. The RMG driver managed to complete 90 laps throughout the day as the young German prepares to retain his 2014 driver's crown.
