Augusto Farfus and Maxime Martin have set the pace for BMW on the first day of the Hockenheim DTM pre-season test ahead of Audi and Mercedes.

Today [Tuesday] marked the beginning the DTM's one and only official pre-season test, where all manufacturers' are present on the same circuit.

Farfus, now driving for Team MTEK, having swapped from the RBM outfit, ended the day quickest of all by setting a time [1 minute 33.326's] over 0.3's quicker than his M4 stablemate Martin in second.

The rest of the times set within the top-six remained close as Nico Muller, Miguel Molina and Timo Scheider - all representing Audi - could only be separated by little over a tenth.

BMW's Martin Tomczyk almost found himself in that same bracket and was busiest man of the top-six order thanks to completing an impressive haul of 111 laps.

As 0.6's covered the top-six runners a gap of over half-a-second divided Team Schnitzer's Tomczyk and Team ABT's Adrien Tambay in seventh.

Behind the Frenchman came the afternoon's most productive driver - in terms of mileage covered - in the shape the top Mercedes runner, Maximillian Gotz.

While also setting the fastest time of any Mercedes driver, Gotz completed 113 laps in the upgraded C63 challenger.

Mercedes subsequently locked out positions eight to eleven, which comprised of Daniel Juncadella, DTM new Esteban Ocon and ART's Lucas Auer.

BMW's Timo Glock also circulated for 32-laps but the former F1 driver's day was cut short after suffering a heavy shunt at turn one.
