Abt Sportsline's Mattias Ekstrom has maintained Audi's stranglehold over the DTM season opening Hockenheim weekend by going quickest in the final free practice session.

Ekstrom finished where he qualified in ninth position during yesterday's first race but the Swede rose to the top of the timesheets after setting a 1 minute 33.833 second lap.

The double champion's effort sent his Abt run RS 5 0.141's clear of his Team Phoenix counterpart of Mike Rockenfeller in second.

HWA's Paul di Resta was the highest classified Mercedes in third, marginally ahead of his compatriot Jamie Green.

Yesterday's race one winner Edoardo Mortara set the fifth fastest time, meaning Audi all but eclipsed the top-five order with four RS 5's dominating the upper echelons of the timesheet.

Robert Wickens, Tom Blomqvist and yesterday's maiden pole sitter Nico Muller made up positions six, seven and eight, marginally ahead of BMW's Maxime Martin and Mercedes' Maximilian Gotz, who completed the top ten.
