Lucas Auer has notched up his maiden DTM race win while third place driver Robert Wickens has claimed the overall points lead in the championship from Marco Wittmann.

The 21-year-old has become the first Austrian driver to claim a race victory in the DTM's current guise and leaves the Eurospeedway Lausitzring having kick-started his 2016 campaign after failing to grab a single points in the opening four rounds.

After a solid and unspectacular seventh in race one the Austrian produced a flawless qualifying performance ahead of race two to grab pole for new squad Team Mucke Mercedes.

Looking to impress from pole Auer produced a flawless performance to win ahead of Swedish driver Mattias Ekstrom by almost four seconds.

Wickens, who is yet to win in 2016, has jumped from fourth in the standings to take the lead leaving Lausitzring thanks to his second consecutive third place, after previous championship leader Wittmann could only scramble to sixth, with Edoardo Mortara out of the points in 12th and Paul di Resta failing to finish.

British hopeful Jamie Green backed up his impressive run of form to take fourth place ahead of fellow countryman Gary Paffett and Wittmann.

Christian Vietoris notched up seventh as Nico Muller, Bruno Spengler and Timo Glock completed the points-paying positions.
