Tom Thickpenny and Ronan McKenzie shared the Cadet wins in the sixth and seventh rounds of the 2010 Easykart Championship at Rowrah.

On the only doubleheader weekend of the year Thickpenny mastered the challenging Cumbrian venue to win Saturday's sixth round and then take a strong runner-up finish in Sunday's seventh round to turn a small deficit into a ten point championship lead over McKenzie with just one round remaining.

Saturday's final was a duel between Thickpenny, E-Plate holder McKenzie and Jordan Sanders with all three getting a taste of the lead before McKenzie retired from second place shortly after half distance leaving the race as a straight fight between Thickpenny and Sanders.

Despite having finished no higher than seventh in any of the five precious finals in 2010 Sanders traded the lead like a veteran with Thickpenny until the former MSA British Championship runner moved ahead for good on lap 16 of 18.

As Thickpenny celebrated a return to the top of the championship, just two tenths of a second behind him Sanders could celebrate his best finish of the year by some margin with Sam Faulkner completing the podium less than a second further back.

Leading series novice Zack Nickson took fourth from William Stowell with Matthew Taylor heading home a pack of karts in a distant sixth place.

McKenzie shrugged off his disappointment at Saturday's DNF with a thrilling win in Sunday's final, leading home a six kart train who had battled for the lead throughout. McKenzie, Thickpenny, Nickson, Stowell, Faulkner and the impressive novice Jenson Murchison chopped and changed position every laps until McKenzie finally snatched the lead on the final lap from Thickpenny.

Keeping his title hopes alive with a two tenths of a second victory McKenzie goes to the final round ten points behind Thickpenny before dropped scores are taken into account. Murchison, who led great swathes of the race, finished a career best third with Nickson fourth and Stowell, who sits third in the standings 12 markers behind McKenzie, completing the top five.
