Patrick Lay did everything he could but in the end not even victory in the eighth and final round of the 2010 Easykart UK Senior Lightweight Championship could prevent Elliot Rice from being crowned champion.

Rice won the pre-final from Joe Paterson and Lay to secure pole position for the all-important 20-lap point scoring grand final but, knowing that he had to do something special Lay jumped them both on the opening lap to take the lead.

As Lay led from Rice and Paterson the rest of the field began to fall away and with Rice mindful of the bigger picture he chose not to try and risky move on the leader, who took the chequered flag half a second ahead of the new champion with Paterson less than a kart length further back in third.

Two seconds behind Lay, Sam Dimelow was fourth with Mark Elder and Owen Jenman completing the top six.

Thanks to his fourth runner-up finish of the year Rice claims the title by seven points from Lay with Jenman another seven points further back in third and Kieran McCullough, the fourth championship hopeful going into the event, five points behind Jenman in fourth.
