The death of Ayrton Senna at San Marino 1994

One of the most painful moments F1 has ever witnessed. Rubens Barrichello avoided serious injury during Friday’s qualifying but withdrew from the race weekend, before the fatal crash of Roland Ratzenberger in a head-on collision with a concrete barrier due to a front wing failure during Saturday’s qualifying. In the race after a brief safety car period, Senna crashed while leading at Tamburello corner and hit the concrete wall at around 130mph. After the deaths of Ratzenberger and Senna the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association was reformed with a series of safety procedures and changes installed.
