After the team's stated number one target for its F1 2010 debut ruled himself out of the running last month, newcomer USF1 might yet get its man - as Alex Wurz conceded that a return to the top flight with the North Carolina-based outfit next year could be an 'attractive' proposition.

Barely three weeks ago, Wurz revealed that he wanted to 'draw a line under the matter' in order to instead focus '100 per cent' on his sportscar programme with Peugeot [see separate story - click here], including the iconic, round-the-clock Le Mans 24 Hours, which in company with fellow former F1 aces David Brabham and Marc Gen? he won for a second time in June.

However, in what appears to be a re-think, the 35-year-old - who last competed at the highest level with Williams back in 2007, and has three podium finishes to his name from 69 grand prix starts - confessed during an interview with Austrian publication Sportmagazin that another option might be for him to race for USF1 in 2010, with a substitute filling in for him in the Canadian Grand Prix to enable him to fulfil his duties to Peugeot at La Sarthe into the bargain.

Admitting that talks have taken place to just such an effect, Wurz added that the much-maligned, Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson-led USF1 is the 'only team' that might entice him back to the fray - and principally down to the involvement of the likes of YouTube founder Chad Hurley amongst others.

"That's because of the people, like the sponsor Chad Hurley, one of the new generation who are changing our world completely," he explained. "It would be attractive to co-operate with people like that."

Should he indeed be tempted to rejoin the field in 2010, it would not be the first time Wurz has returned following a hiatus - nor his longest absence either - after more than four years elapsed between his last race for Benetton in 2000 and his one-off re-appearance in-place of the injured Juan-Pablo Montoya for McLaren-Mercedes in the 2005 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, finishing an excellent third.

The son of former rallycross competitor Franz Wurz was also the driving force behind the ultimately unsuccessful Team Superfund bid to gain one of the extra slots available in the field in 2010.
