Donington Park owner Kevin Wheatcroft has revealed that a deal has been agreed 'in principle' with a new leaseholder to help bring the circuit back to life.

Following the ill-fated attempt the secure the British Grand Prix, previous leaseholder Donington Ventures Leisure Limited - headed by Simon Gillett - collapsed into administration, with the circuit being left in a state of disrepair as a result after work that had started on the British GP plans ground to a halt.

Following DVLL's problems, the lease on the venue returned to the owning Wheatcroft family, who have since been on the look-out for a replacement to bring the circuit back into use.

The BARC and Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision group were mentioned as two possibilities, but Wheatcroft has now revealed that Worcester-based construction and property Adroit are to take over with a 25-year lease.

"It is a big task and nobody is under any illusions about that," managing director of the Adroit Group David Broome said. "We intend to bring the site back up to a world class standard. The entire site needs attention whilst much of it will require a total overhaul from the track itself to the medical centre, hospitality suites, phone, radio and PA systems, IT systems, CCTV and general ground work.

"There is no magic wand, but through a calm, cautious, credible and sensible approach we know that we have the experience, expertise and absolute commitment to bring the glory years back to Donington. I believe the very fact that we fully understand the task at hand and were able to convey our realism and pragmatism were factors in us winning out over the other parties."

With the Adroit Group hoping the circuit can reclaim its licence in August ahead of a resumption of racing in September, Wheatcroft said he was confident that the new leaseholders can make Donington a success once again.

"We are particularly pleased that after a long interview process, we feel that we have found the right people to move Donington forward into a new and exciting future," he said. "Adroit impressed us from the first time we met them and we have every confidence in their ability and vision for Donington."
