Lotus Renault GP - formerly Renault F1 - has blocked its star driver Robert Kubica from competing on next weekend's legendary Monte Carlo Rally after the Pole expressed his desire to enter the Intercontinental Rally Challenge (IRC) curtain-raiser in a rival manufacturer's car.

On his debut in the iconic event last year, Kubica suffered heartbreak when the engine in his Renault Clio R3 failed a mere four kilometres into the opening stage - but the 26-year-old signalled his intention to return.

He planned to do so this year, but German website speedweek.de reports that Lotus Renault GP has dashed his hopes by refusing to allow him to do so in any other car than a Renault, forcing Kubica to withdraw his S2000 class entry.
