Sir Stirling Moss has said that the new rules being introduced into F1 for the 2011 season will help to make the sport more exciting, and will reward the skill of the drivers behind the wheel.

The regulations this season see the reintroduction of KERS and the introduction of a new adjustable rear wing, which has been brought into F1 in an effort to improve overtaking.

While some feel the move is an artificial attempt to spice up the show, Moss insisted it would be interesting to see how drivers approach the new regulations when it comes to making the decision over when to employ both KERS and the rear wing.

As a result, the 81-year-old said the regulations would not only improve the racing but raise the level of interest as drivers worked on how best to use the new parts at their disposal.

"They bring the driver back into it," he told the Press Association. "The driver now has to decide when to use the KERS, the wing and everything else. I must say I'm looking forward to the best season for many years because I find motor racing interesting, but not very exciting.

"That was the case last year, it was interesting but not exciting, however this year I think we are going to see excitement as well. There are so many new things that have come in where a driver's input is going to mean a lot more than it did last year.

"We also don't know how the Pirelli tyres are going to perform this season, and they are going to be quite important. So I'm just looking forward to something that I think is going to be exceptionally exciting."

While he added that Sebastian Vettel has the 'talent and car' to defend his title during the year ahead, Moss pulled no punches when it comes to another German on the grid as he again insisted that Michael Schumacher had made a mistake in coming out of retirement, despite the improved showing of Mercedes towards the end of pre-season testing.

"Michael is a great driver, a seven times world champion, which does not actually mean much," he said. "The point is we have never really seen Michael with a number two (a team-mate) to judge him by, that we can say is comparable. Therefore it is very difficult for us to know just how good he is, so personally I don't think he's going to win races.

"I think coming back was a mistake. He has done a tremendous amount for motor-racing, most of all bringing Ferrari back to the top when they were doing nothing. But I think it's going to be very difficult for him again. He's going to be lucky to even get on the podium."
