Antonio Felix da Costa's 2014 season took shape in the course of a few hours today [Friday], with confirmation that he would remain a part of the Red Bull F1 family being followed by the announcement that he will also contest the DTM touring car series with BMW.

The Portuguese ace will swap single-seaters for 'tin-tops' as he joins sportscar star Maxime Martin in joining the eight-man BMW line-up. Having finished third overall in the 2013 World Series by Renault, da Costa will fill one of the seats vacated by out-going BMW DTM drivers Dirk Werner and Andy Priaulx, with marque development pilot Martin taking the other.

"Ant?nio really convinced us what a talented driver he is during his tests in the BMW M3 DTM, and through his previous success in single-seater racing," said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt, "I am looking forward to following his development in the DTM."

The 22-year old da Costa brings a wealth of single-seater experience to the DTM, having raced in both the DTM-supporting F3 Euroseries and F1-feeding GP3 Championship over the last couple of years. Having joined the Red Bull Junior Team in 2012, he ended the year with a strong run in a partial WSbR campaign before winning the legendary Macau F3 Grand Prix.

Having impressed in F1 testing with Red Bull, it was expected that he would replace Daniel Ricciardo at Toro Rosso for 2014, but was passed over in favour of GP3 champion Daniil Kvyat. Despite that, Red Bull announced that it would continue to support da Costa and earlier today confirmed that he would form a two-pronged test and reserve cohort with Sebastien Buemi.

The DTM announcement followed a couple of hours later, ensuring that the youngster remains 'race ready' should he be required to fill in at either Red Bull-backed team in the top flight.

"It is an honour for me to drive for such a big manufacturer as BMW," da Costa admitted, "Switching from single-seater racing to touring cars is a new experience, but the cars are great to drive. The DTM is a top-class racing series - and I can't wait to get stuck into this challenge."
