Reliability problems continued to dog Ferrari in the penultimate day of the pre-season testing at Bahrain International Circuit, but they were hardly alone in that regard.

"I'd hoped to do more laps, but this wasn't an easy day," Raikkonen told after the day's session was completed.

The team had lost time in the morning dealing with a problem with a connector that forced the engineers to partially dismantle the car to get at the root cause of the issue, leaving Raikkonen scrambling to catch up with the programme that included a race simulation distance which included some live pit stops.

"We lost some time this morning when we had to fix something on the car, but then we managed to make up for some of it in the afternoon," said the Finn.

"Running a race distance, we continued to get more data relating to fuel consumption strategies and tyre degradation, even though the strong wind upset the driving a lot," he added of his last spell in the day, with team mate Fernando Alonso slated to take over for the final day of testing on Sunday.

"I'd like to be able to say we did better, but there's still one more day with Fernando to continue our preparation for Melbourne."

Despite focussing on distance and reliability rather than qualifying laps, Raikkonen still ended the day third fastest on the timesheets behind Felipe Massa in the Williams and Nico Rosberg in the Mercedes., albeit two seconds off the pace of the top two.

Rosberg had also suffered an early technical problem that delayed his morning run while the engine of his W05 was swapped out. The German also backed up Raikkonen's comments about the weather in Bahrain on Saturday.

"You get to the next corner and all of a sudden there's a sandstorm there and you've got no grip!" Rosberg said. "First time in Bahrain I've experienced that on the track, so that was quite crazy."

Raikkonen will next be back in the cockpit of the Ferrari in 12 days time, when he pulls out of pit lane in Albert Park, Melbourne for the first free practice session of the Australian Grand Prix.
