Nico Rosberg admits that he cannot wait to get started on the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, hoping that a repeat of his emotional 2013 victory will propel him back to the top of the F1 championship standings.

The German held sway in the drivers' table through the opening four rounds of 2014, as his victory and team-mate Lewis Hamilton's DNF in Melbourne gave him a 25-point cushion. Since then, however, Hamilton has eroded the gap with four successive wins - despite Rosberg finishing second each time - to eventually take over at the top in Spain last weekend.

Now, however, the season heads to Monaco. Both drivers can count a victory in the Principality amongst the successes, but Rosberg appeared in a different league to his team-mate last season, and hopes that the tables will turn in a similar fashion this time around.

"Obviously, I associate many wonderful memories with this place - it's where I grew up and where I now live, but in sporting terms too, I have had some great moments there," he noted, "In particular, last year, when I won there for the first time in my F1 career. That was an absolutely incredible feeling."

Both drivers returned to the Circuit de Catalunya after the Spanish Grand prix to conduct a day of testing with the W05 Hybrid, and Rosberg is keen to put what he learned into practice.

"Overall, I was quite pleased with the last race weekend in Barcelona," he insisted, "Disappointed, of course, not to have taken the win, but happy that the team achieved another one-two finish. The championship battle is very close and to regain the advantage at my home race would be fantastic, so I'll be pushing harder than ever to make that happen.

"I had a productive day of testing in Barcelona where we made some good progress with braking and starts: two areas that I feel are costing me time at the moment, and hopefully that will give me the extra edge. It should be an exciting weekend and I can't wait to get started!"
