Pirelli has confirmed that the new ultrasoft F1 compound will make its third appearance of 2016 at the Austrian Grand Prix.

The tyre, introduced for this season amid a series of new rubber regulations, will make its debut in Monaco next month, and re-appear at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Canada, but Pirelli has now confirmed that it will also be on offer in Styria, alongside the more familiar soft and supersoft compounds already seen on several occasions this season.

The Austrian race, set for the weekend that bridges the end of June and start of July is round nine of the 2016 world championship, will not require mandatory use of the purple-ringed ultrasoft tyre in the race, but will the tyre set aside for drivers making it through to Q3 on Saturday afternoon. This set will be given back to Pirelli by those who qualify in the top eight, while the remaining drivers will keep it for the race.

The teams are free to choose the remaining ten sets of tyres they take into the weekend, making up 13 sets in total.
