Podiums in Monaco and Baku helped ensured Sergio Perez enjoyed his best-ever season in Formula One in 2016 with the Mexican finishing seventh in the Drivers' Championship and scoring 101 points, 29 more than that team-mate Nico Hulkenberg.

It may have took Perez until the fourth race of the year to open his account, when he was ninth in Russia, but after that he was 'Mr Consistent'.

Indeed he followed it up with a seventh in Spain, before taking a brilliant third in Monaco thanks to a savvy strategy.

Tenth in Canada saw him again score, before a superb performance in Baku netted him his second podium in three races. He also qualified a brilliant second there, sadly though unable to take up that position on the grid after picking a gearbox penalty following his crash in final practice. It was at this time that he was also flouted as a possible Ferrari candidate for 2017.

Retirement in Austria after a brake problem on the final lap put pay to another points finish, but he was then sixth in Britain, before finishing just outside the top-ten in Hungary following a miscommunication between the pit wall and the mechanics.

After that Perez took a clean-sweep of points finishes in all ten remaining races, peaking with a fifth in Belgium and a fourth place finish in the rain-affected penultimate race in Brazil.

Perez will now remain with Force India in 2017, joined by Esteban Ocon after Hulkenberg opted to switch to Renault.

About the vote:
Rather than repeat the Drivers' World Championship standings, the F1 Driver of the Year poll asks viewers to take into account factors such as machinery, performance relative to a team-mate, driving style, experience, progress and personality just as much as race results.

Over 70,000 votes were cast for the 2016 Crash.net F1 Driver of the Year poll, where viewers awarded each of this year's full-time participants.
