Force India team principal Vijay Mallya says his squad's bright start to 2017 means it is solely targeting fourth in the Formula 1 world constructors' championship.

The Silverstone-based team has carried its momentum into the new season since clinching its best-ever F1 championship finish of fourth last year and despite the regulations revamp it appears Force India has been able to exploit the most out of the changes in the opening four flyaway rounds.

With a solid base package Force India has seen both Sergio Perez and Esteban Ocon score points in every race so far this season, which only Mercedes and Ferrari can also boast, and its best results of 6th for Perez and 7th for Ocon in Russia saw the team strengthen its grip on fourth in the F1 world constructors' standings.

With a 13-point advantage over Williams in the midfield scrap heading into the Spanish Grand Prix, Mallya says his team must focus on keeping hold of its advantage as it hunts back-to-back fourth places in the teams' championship.

We can look back on the start of the year feeling pretty happy," Mallya said. "We continued our 100% points-scoring record by adding another 14 points in Sochi to consolidate our fourth place in the championship.

"I'm proud of the team and how we are performing. We're taking our chances and racing intelligently. Sergio's remarkable consistency continued with a fourteenth straight points finish, while Esteban secured his best ever result in Formula One with a seventh place. To have scored points with both cars in every race gives me confidence for the rest of the year.

"We want to hold on to fourth place. Our planned development programme will continue in Barcelona where hopefully we can take another step forward with the VJM10."

Hamilton named Britain's richest sportsman - but just one other F1 driver makes the top 10

Despite Perez's impressive current run of 14 consecutive points finishes the Mexican driver has a long way to go to break the record of 27 held by Kimi Raikkonen (2012 Bahrain Grand Prix-2013 Hungarian Grand Prix).
