Stewart Grand Prix's Jan Magnussen has received some temporary respite following a series of disappointing performances with the news that the team is to retain his services - for now.

Magnussen had come under fire from the Stewart team's sponsors after a poor start to the season which culminated in a collision with team-mate Reubens Barrichello in San Marino, but earned his reprieve with a good Barcelona test earlier this week.

Team boss Paul Stewart was greatly encouraged by his driver's performance in Spain, which the Dane described as his best ever test, but refused to comment on the duration of Magnussen's stay of execution. Possible replacement Jos Verstappen has apparently been ruled out of the equation, however, by joining Benetton as test driver.
