The redesigned car on which Alain Prost was pinning his team's hopes provided little encouragement for the Frenchman in testing this week.

The revised AP01, which features a 17cm extension to its wheelbase as well as new front and rear suspension set-ups, failed to produce any dramatic improvement in performance in the hands of Oliver Panis. The French driver claimed to detect little difference from the original, shorter car, and thought that the longer chassis was still difficult to drive.

Track time was limited by gearbox and engine problems and wet weather, leaving Panis' team-mate Jarno Trulli to try the car later this week.
