Williams and BMW had the wide expanses of Silverstone to themselves as they began perhaps the most important test of the Formula One season so far.

Running with two cars, in the hands of Italian Grnad Prix race duo Juan Montoya and Marc Gene, the Grove-based team made the most of some pleasant late summer weather to begin set-up work on the FW25 in preparation for the forthcoming US and Japanese Grands Prix which close out the tightly-fough 2003 campaign..

"We had a successful session today, with Juan Pablo and Marc undertaking testing duties for us under glorious skies at Silverstone," test engineer Tim Newton told the team's website, "Through the course of the day, we concentrated on testing brake and suspension components, as well as performing some tyre testing work with Michelin. We managed to cover over 800 kilometres of running, which has provided us with some invaluable information for the last two races of the year."
