Nick Heidfeld racked up one hundred laps of the Jerez de la Frontera circuit as he worked through the second day of his - and Sauber's - latest test at the Spanish venue.

With the weather remaining warm and dry, Heidfeld continued to run chassis 05 as he prepared for the USGP at Indianapolis next weekend. Although concentrating on aerodynamic and tyre comparisons, the German set a best time of 1min 19.235secs to outpace everyone bar world champion Michael Schumacher.

"Nick has done a good job and ran a lot of laps which gave us valuable data," commented R?mi Decorzent, the German's race engineer, "Our work today basically comprised aerodynamic tests and the assessment of the downforce levels for Indianapolis and Suzuka.

In the afternoon, we also conducted a tyre programme to select the most suitable compound for Suzuka and, tomorrow, Heinz-Harald Frentzen will help us to verify the gathered data. We will combine this work with long-runs focused on the evaluation of the tyre performance."
