Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer set the pace today [Tuesday] at the Mugello circuit in Italy, the Italian's best was a 1 minute 22.689 seconds, almost a second up on the next best time, set by fellow Scuderia tester Felipe Massa.

Badoer completed 74 laps in total, while Massa joined proceedings late in the afternoon, and as a result completed just 18 laps. The day's technical programme for Ferrari centred on tyre testing for Bridgestone and set-up work for the forthcoming Japanese Grand Prix, which takes place on October 12.

BAR-Honda were the only other team in action, and like the Scuderia, the Brackley based concern utilised both test drivers, as the racers recover from jet lag following the United States GP on Sunday.

Takuma Sato was the quicker of the two BAR testers, despite crashing heavily this afternoon. The Japanese driver completed 77 laps, his best a 1m 23.940s, around half a second up on Anthony Davidson, who was using the sister 005. Despite being taken to hospital for a precautionary X-ray, it is thought that Taku will be fine to test tomorrow, when proceedings will continue.
