Luck ran out for Rubens Barrichello and Felipe Massa in the seventh Granja Viana 500 mile, the biggest endurance kart race in Brazil.

In a race featuring Marco Andretti and Tony Kanaan, Ferrari's Brazilian pair, winners on four consecutive occasions in the past, finished in thirteenth after suffering engine problems.

Only seven laps had passed when Barrichello had to pull into the pits to substitute the engine. The Brazilian mechanics, aided by the drivers, excelled and managed to change the engine in only 4 minutes 30 seconds.

"Even taking into account the engine problems on lap seven, and our starting from seventeenth on the grid - factors that conditioned the whole race - we did our best right to the end, without ever giving up," stated Barrichello.

He went on: "I have to say that I am pleased and extremely proud of my pal Alex Zanardi who came fourth with his team. I will do everything I can to make Alex come to Fiorano to try out a Ferrari on the track."

"Now I just want to think about the break that I will spend with my family and friends. We will see each other again at the winter tests."

Massa commented: "Certainly last year's race was luckier! Engine problems, problems with the clutch cable, brakes and other stuff... this was not our year!"

Victory in the 644 lap, 11 hour race went to Christian Fittipaldi's team - Christian being the son of the famous Emerson Fittipladi. The Italian, Alex Zanardi, claimed fourth and sixth went to former Ferrari tester Luciano Burti.
