The BMW Williams F1 team dominated testing today [Tuesday] at the Valencia circuit in Spain, Juan Pablo Montoya heading a one-two-three for the Grove based squad.

Montoya completed 69 laps in total, while Ralf Schumacher notched up 37 in the sister FW25, and Marc Gene 56. JPM's best was a 1 minute 10.081 seconds, over a second up on the nearest non-Williams, driven by McLaren tester, Alexander Wurz.

Tim Newton, test team manager for WilliamsF1, told the outfit's official website: "The day started relatively slowly but soon picked up by mid-morning. The team spent the session testing chassis set-ups and evaluating tyre compounds with Michelin.

"We also successfully ran our new gearbox. By the end of the session, our drivers had recorded the fastest times of the field and completed a total of 162 laps."

Renault test driver, Franck Montagny meanwhile completed the top five, the Frenchman a tenth up on team-mate, Jarno Trulli, in seventh, while Mark Webber was the meat in the regie sandwich in sixth.

Webber completed 37 laps in the Jaguar R4, while Christian Klien and Townsend Bell were also in action for 'the Cat', in what was labelled 'a talent test', when the announcement was made two weeks ago that they would test for the Milton Keynes based operation. Both drivers ran very well, Klein around a tenth slower than Webber, and Bell around four tenths further adrift - bad news for Justin Wilson then, who is fighting to keep his drive at the team.

David Coulthard and Ryan Briscoe were the only other two runners on track, the former running in the new McLaren MP4-19 [see separate story], while Briscoe ran in the Toyota TF103. DC completed 47 laps in total, in what was a promising start for the latest machine penned by Adrian Newey and his design team.

Testing continues tomorrow [Wednesday]
