Jay Kay revs up celebrity competition.

Any hopes the Pro Celebrity Race that will precede the first round of the Formula One World Championship in Bahrain would be any less competitive than the Grand Prix itself have been shattered by the announcement that Jamiroquai front man Jay Kay will be lining up.

Jay Kay will be joining Sir Steve Redgrave and Michael Johnson among many others in a Chevrolet Lumina SS and thanks to his love of fast cars will arguably be one of the favourites when the lights go green for the two ten lap races.

A well publicised motoring enthusiast, Jay Kay is a massive Formula One fan and his Ferrari dominated garage, including the exclusive Enzo, certainly indicates where his loyalties lie when the action gets underway.

Nonetheless, he will face competition from Pink Floyd's Nick Mason, who shares the musicians 'need for speed' and coincidently is also one of the lucky few to have an Enzo at his disposal. However, he is merely pleased to be occupying the same circuit as legendary Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave.

"I could hardly believe the invitation when it arrived...see what promises to be one of the best GPs for some time, drive a seriously exciting race car in the shape of the 5.0-litre V8 Lumina, and escape the British winter! Not only that, but compete against one of my heroes in the shape of Sir Steve Redgrave.

"I may have some motor racing experience, but I suspect anyone who has quite so many gold medals is unlikely to head out onto one of the most sophisticated of all Grand Prix circuits for a gentle meander around!"

General Manager of the Bahrain International Circuit, Martin Whitaker, is delighted to have secured Jay Kay for the one-off event. "I'm so thrilled that Jay Kay is taking part. I'm really looking forward to showing him what we have to offer here in Bahrain for motorsport fans.

"I think that having him in the race this weekend is really going to stir things up and make the on track action even more exciting and entertaining for the fans at the circuit and views at home."
