Three-time British Grand Prix winner Nigel Mansell will make a Formula One comeback of sorts at this year's event, having agreed to get behind the wheel of one of the BMW Sauber team's cars as part of its Pit Lane Park attraction.

Following his appointment as an ambassador to the Formula BMW UK championship, Mansell has been lined up to give an F1 'masterclass' as part of his role as mentor the stars of tomorrow competing in the series. The 'Introduction to Formula One' session will be the second of a series of three that the British legend will give to the 16-21-year olds and, with the Pit Lane Park's 100-metre asphalt 'track' and 25-metre turning circle, he is certain to recreate his evocative tyre-smoking theatrics - something that many of his 'pupils' will not have witnessed in his 1990s heyday.

Mansell has not appeared in an F1 car since turning out for Jordan at the successful Regent Street parade event in London in the summer of 2004. He has since introduced his two sons - Leo and Greg - to the sport, the pair graduating from FBMW UK to British F3 this season.

The Pit Lane Park is now into its third year as a 'touring theme park' running alongside selected grands prix, and provides race fans with first-hand experience of the sound, speed and dynamics of the sport via timed pit-stop challenge, a miniature race track, driving simulators, an F1 training centre and an 'Insider' quiz. The Silverstone set-up will be positioned on the outside of the Becketts complex throughout the British GP weekend.
