Indianapolis Motor Speedway CEO Tony George has told American Formula One fans not to hold their breath waiting for a decision on next year's race, predicting that there is some way still to go before a deal can be hammered out with Bernie Ecclestone.

The Indianapolis Star newspaper reports that a decision on renewing the race's contract is unlikely to be made much before the agreed 12 July deadline, primarily because George admits that he has not discussed the future with the F1 tsar since the recent grand prix at the Brickyard two weeks ago.

"[A decision] will probably come down to the last minute," the newspaper quoted George as saying, before suggesting that a ninth USGP remained only 50:50.

Ecclestone apparently could not be reached for a reaction as he was in Las Vegas for talks about a possible replacement race.
